Is there any wealthy/upper-class communities in Huntsville?

Yes. I don't remember the names of them all, but when I drove around trying to get a feel for various neighborhoods, I found several. The Ledges was one of them? There are some multi-million dollar homes, anyways. Then a new Village of Providence downtown - for the more frugal wealthy who only want to pay $650k for a house in a lil upscale neighborhood.

There are lots of upper-middle class neighborhoods sprinkled around SE Huntsville and Madison. The truly upper crust neighborhoods though are Governor's Bend, The Ledges, the end of Drake overlooking Jones Valley (don't know the name), some of the properties on the ridge on Monte Sano, Twickenham (historical) and parts of Old Town (historical). There are probably a few others that I'm not familiar with.

FYI, to anyone interested in looking at homes you could never afford, drive up Drake Ave going east up the hill. There are some amazing properties up there overlooking Jones Valley. Massive, beautiful homes. I don't know what people do with 10,000+ sqft. That neighborhood isn't gated like Governor's Bend or the Ledges, so you can just drive around.

Rnc, we looked at a home on Drake where you are talking about. It was just at the base before the hill goes up, so it was a "middle class" home, but the home across the street and rapidly ascending up the hill were some absolutely amazing homes.

The one we looked at was a cool home too, and we could have afforded it too, but it just didn't seem like a very active block in terms of kids and families. AND the house seriously had a brown recluse infestation, and you know how I feel about those. And, no, it wasn't my imagination! These people had wood stacked up against the house, forest in the backyard, and we saw 2 brown recluse spiders in the 15 minutes we were there.

Still, if someone came in and bought that house and really updated it, it'd be a great investment I'm sure, considering the neighborhood.

I don't know if golf is a consideration for you but The Ledges is rated at one of the Top Ten golf courses in Alabama and Alabama is a state just loaded with great courses....it's a private club and I don't know how hard to join or what expense, but I've heard it's an awesome course and it is rated by Golf Digest in Alabama's top ten....

Luxury Real Estate & Homes for Sale | Official Sotheby's International Realty® Site recently had an estate located on the brow of Monte Sano (the one you see when driving over Chapman Mountain) that had been for sale for $14,000,000 (yep, you saw it right). It's not on their site at the moment; I don't know if it sold or not. It never hit our MLS, of course.

Ledges current prices range from $630K-$2 Million, Ledges homes currently listed are from $545K (2133 square feet) - $3 Million, Providence is $325K-$650K ($153-280/sf), McMullen Cove has just started building at $656K-$1.4 Million ($206-$257/sf) and so on.

Just noticed I said Ledges twice above. Sorry about that, gang. The first price range was for Clift's Cove and the second was the Ledges. Busy weekend! Love it!
