Hubby and I are possibly moving to Florence. We want to rent a house for a year first before we buy to get to know the area. We are looking for a one level, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with an attached garage and fenced yard in the $900-1000/month range. Can anyone tell us if there are any areas to stay away from (most cities have good and bad areas). We are in our early 50s with no kids at home. Any other information on Florence would be greatly appreciated as we are from the B'ham area and have never been to Florence but may move due to a job change. Thanks!

Very, very few people are on this board from the Florence area. Search the general Alabama forum - there are a few threads there.

FWIW, if you find the Aldi's, the area north of that looks pretty good. From Aldi's south to 72 is similar to the beltway in Decatur, so shopping is close but not obnoxiously so.

Just got back from Florence. Great downtown area. City Hardware is an amazing restaurant.

You will like Florence. I would also check outlying areas. Lots of good country places to live.

In my 40+ years in the area, I've never been to Florence when it wasn't either raining or night. I didn't realize that until I saw a picture of how nice the river area is. (or was it unremarkable previously)
