HI All,

We recently moved from Oakland, CA to Hampton cove, and enjoying the 'lack of traffic', and peaceful family lifestyle.... I have a 4 yr old Labrador, who like to swim and I was wondering whether anyone can help me finding a good spot to take him for swimming, preferably within 5-10 miles of Hampton cove. We are also interested in local walking/biking trials.... any help will be greatly appreciated....

you can run and jump and bike and frolic till your hearts desire at Sharron Johnston Park in new market but that`s about 15 miles or so north of you .. and i dont see why your dog couldn`t swim in the lake ..Or go up on Monsanto mountain .. you already aint far from it .. if you are near the Flint river most any bridge over it will have access to getting under it for the dog ... may have to fend off a few vagrants .. HA !! welcome to bama ..and remember Role Tide ....

Consider visiting Hays Nature Preserve on the Flint River in Hampton Cove:

Drop him off at my house - I'll have him back to you before he turns 15.... lol

We had a lab - Max - who lived to be 14... Miss him every day.
I'd fill a 'coke' bottle with about 1/2 water and a few small rocks - and put the top on it.
I'd throw my arm out of socket before he'd stop retrieving it...
And it'd never come back with holes in it - their mouths are so soft...

They are the best dogs... I hope you have years of enjoyment out of yours...

That'd be my first stop. I've taken my dog in Big Cove Creek by Hays.

Should also have access to Flint River if you take the Flint River Greenway south a bit from Hays parking area. Looks like a good bit of the Greenway follows the river, so there should several places that are great for doggie swimming.

Madison County Nature Trail is ~10 minutes away from Hampton Cove. There's a lake with a few good places to let your dog go nuts.
