I am due for an oil change soon, but would like to avoid the dealership if possible. When I was living in NY, I used the dealership for car repairs and had a reputable foreign auto repair shop do regular maintenance like oil changes and brakes.

??? There are any number of oil change places, like "Exprees Oil", that specialize in that and basic checks. Am I missing something about BMWs?

I prefer not to take my car to Express oil change places because I’ve heard too many horror stories. Besides BMW’s are over engineered and temperamental, but it’s the price I pay for owning “the Ultimate Driving Machine”.

The only way to know for sure it is done right is to do it yourself, which is what I do. However, almost anywhere will do an oil change. One of my coworkers used to get Top Line Tires (now Mavis Tires) to do hers.

There used to be a guy on here named BMW Dave who owned a small shop in Madison. I think you may be able to find him on Facebook...he may only be taking folks by referral now. Unfortunately I've never used him since I don't have a BMW, but I think some other users on here may have used him before for various repairs.

I've heard good things about Euro-Tech (https://www.eurotechhsv.com/) but never used them myself.

Thank you so much. I’ll look him up.

Drain plug and spin on filter, over engineered?
