Since I moved here last fall, I have found my favorite newscaster (anchor). That usually happens wherever I live. Like, when I was in Portland for several years, I loved Rhonda Shelby (the weather woman at KATU). In Arizona, I loved the whole crew at AZ Family news channel.

Now, everybody in the news biz in Huntsville is excellent. But there's one person who stands out to me and that is Shevaun Bryan. I just think she is cute as a button, and very articulate. She has that special something - to me. She has a twinkle and also stability. So I wrote to her on Facebook and told her so. Looked at her Insta, she reminds me of my daughter when my daughter was her age a few years ago (Las Vegas baby!)

Who is yours? Or more than one?

I like Shevaun Bryan too; however, she is a Miami Hurricane grad/fan!
She and Jerry Hayes makes for a great team. I also like WHNT's Christine Killimayer & Greg Screws team. I don't think I could pick a favorite out of the four of them.

Elizabeth Gentle at WAFF, not an anchor but Peyton Walker at WAFF.
Margo Gray is very good, Christine Killameyer at WHNT. Dan Schaffer at WAAY. Problem is once they get established a lot of the good ones move on to bigger markets.

Tonight Shevaun, Greg Screws and the weatherman were talking about the Miami/Alabama game, I didn't really catch it but Greg was teasing her and she was like I'll never hear the end of it and then murmured Roll Tide LOL (Shevaun is from Miami)

Recently, Erin Dacy has returned to temporary assignment at WAAY 31. She is a favorite of mine along with Liz Hurley and Marie Waxel.

and that's why screws is an amateur and not taken seriously.

I've worked in a couple of tv stations. I'll start by saying that all of the talent mentioned do a decent job in the current markets.

My issue is that "news" is no longer news, but entertainment. Popularity contests amongst the presenters are a distraction from the real job. To point that out rather brutally, would you rather be told you had cancer by Lady Gaga or Mick Jagger?

Every single source of news slants it. Television stations are no different. The mouthpieces often have little to say about what comes out of their mouths. Their skill at being ventriloquists' puppets has little to do with anything but ratings.

I am old enough to remember when news was dull. The use of emotion or inflection was frowned upon, and viewers were expected to think and have their own reactions to various stories. Perhaps more was expected of the public back then.

Instead of the faces, I notice the slant of the stories. I look for underlying facts. When a story comes on about a teenager shot by peers, and the photo in the story shows him flashing a gang sign, and yet the story continues about what a wonderful boy he was, I pause and wonder. When a person commits suicide by cop and the only commentary is about the use of deadly force, I pause and wonder. When a story comments about the "large" crowd at a protest, and feet on the pavement observation is of a dozen or two "usual suspects," I pause and wonder.

The purpose of local news is not entertainment, but to inform the public of what is going on in a community. It is a REQUIREMENT by the Federal Communications Commission, otherwise the license of the station to operate can be pulled. Rather than faces, I urge you to listen to the reporting and evaluate that.

I wasn't just commenting on her physical appearance. She has a presence and a stability I find appealing.

I'm old as dirt too, and grew up with Jerry Dunphy (local), Walter Cronkite, Edward R. Murrow ad the MacNeil Lehrer Report. I'm not some airhead. I much prefer that era and unfortunately we're never going back to it. The FCC Fairness Doctrine will never return and that's one of the biggest travesties and tragedies of our modern era.

You wanna get really disgusted? Live in L.A. and try to watch the local news. It's the worst. I find it refreshing to live in a smaller market where newscasters aren't models.

I hear ya. I didn't think many people actually watch the local "new" anymore. I haven't watched it for about 13 years. Every single story that has ran on local news that I had first hand knowledge of has been misreported by the local news. Not just one or two but every single one of them had incorrect facts or were slanted to the point of being misleading. I quit watching and just read anything important when I hear about it but most of it is junk anyway and not worth wasting time on. The local weather forecasts are useless and you can use the app on your phone to get the weather forecast in about 20 seconds. Sports news is everywhere so no reason to watch that on local news either.
