The announcement just went out that the Cinemagic Theater in Athens is closing at the end of the month. The old AMC in Huntsville is sold. The theater that started life as a Cobb theater in the old Madison square mall is now razed and the Orion amphitheater is in its place. A number of others have gone and are barely remembered.

For a city the size of Athens to not have a movie theater would have been unheard of a few years ago. Times, technology, economics all conspire to decimate motion picture exhibition. For those who are not particularly interested in sports or able to participate in physical activities, entertainment possibilities are shrinking.

The build was part of the deal made before covid hit and the shifts started hitting the fans. At the time, Touchstar had just spent a bundle on renovations and the rebuild was part of the buyout. Does anyone know what stage the construction is in?

(Personally, given the state of the industry I would skip the rebuild, take the money and run.)

Bids have been submitted, but no timeline yet. It would seem they want to get the area around Orion wrapped up like Apollo Park.

The Bollywood Movie "Zero" was filmed here in 2018.

Huntsville has a good sized Indian community.

With that said, Huntsville has quite a large International community.
