I do not know other companies, but for our company, you have to apply online to get the process started, even if you were an "internal" and the position was specifically created for you.

Yes, HR could take your resume. Then, they would have to input your information to computer FOR YOU. Of course you can say it's their job. But why can't you just help yourself?

To meet hiring managers? Right now, we have more than 10 managers who are hiring people. Do you really think all of them should line up in a job fair greeting people?

It has all been advice, you have just chosen to take it as criticism. This is the way of the world in Huntsville, like it or not. If you don't like how they ask you to go online, don't expect to get a job. It's really that simple. Embrace it as the rest of us (that have jobs) have, and she can expect to be a lot more successful.

Excellent point!

Smaller companies may still take paper resumes, but bigger ones (including the government agencies) will direct you to apply online. Some may even tell you the specific requisition # to apply.

This way, it presents an image of "fairness" so the hiring manager will not just hire based on the "buddy system". The online keyword screening system eliminates those who don't have the right "key words" (though they maybe fully qualified ), then the HR further eliminates those who did not meet the written qualifications, eventually those resumes that made the cut ended up in the hiring manager's desk (or electronic files).

The interviewing process has shifted to "panel" interviews in recent years, as oppose to one-to-one interview. You'll face a group of people (minimum of 3) at one interview and they will ask you a set of standard questions that they ask to ALL interviewing candidates and write down your responses. At the end, they will rank every interviewees based on your answers.
