Can anyone recommend a good local gynecologist? One that does not practice obstetrics - i.e., one that sees only patients who are not pregnant.

Thanks. Dude's fine. I'm just done with sitting in a waiting room for 2 hours because the OB-gyn had an emergency delivery. Since I no longer need obstetrical services, I see no reason to have to patiently endure those delays. I do however still have girl issues that can't be handled by a regular GP.

OK, vent time. I had a 3PM appointment at the spine and neuro on Governors and Gallatin in the Huntsville Medical district this past wednesday.

I called at around 230 to see if I could come in later like 330 because I wanted to get more work done (ya, right). They (Nurse Ratchet) said, "Nope, be here at 3PM, you punk". So I arrive at 3:05...and waited....and waited....and waited....Doctor sees me at 5:05...I was smoking pissed. I asked what's yup with that... he says that this happens all the time and some other doctors have their patients waiting four hours.

Never again will I go to that place.

Michele just told me she goes to the guy you recommended, Dr. Conrad.

I would happily recommend Dr. Susan Nichols. Her office is across the street from the TOC building. She is efficient and thorough (did I spell that correctly). It may take awhile to get an appointment, but I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes past my scheduled time.

Does she deliver? If so, wouldn't that add the risk of the big wait.

Otherwise, I like the ten minutes part. Lately I have been getting screwed at eye doctors, a derm guy, and the ortho guy. I am starting to get smart, bringing a 3G wireless laptop so I can be a smartass on city data while I wait.

Ugh, yeah Conrad's is where I've been waiting for hours. I like Conrad himself, and he's always very gracious, but his staff is bitchy. Once after waiting 2 hours in the waiting room, I was in the exam room for another hour. At some point I had to pick up my kid from school so I start poking my head out into the hall saying "Uh, Hello?! Is this happening soon because I have to be out of here by 1." and gads, the staff was like "HIS MAJESTY WILL SEE YOU WHEN HE IS READY, PEON!" Conrad himself was very gracious and apologetic.

At least with an obstetrician it's excusable because of the unpredictable nature of pregnancy and childbirth. (At least, the delays are excusable. The bitchiness is not.) When it happens at someplace like spine and neuro, that's just nutty. I bet it's going to be EVEN BETTER with nationalized medicine and everyone flooding to see docs with their perceived free health care! (/sarcasm) I know it IS possible to run a smooth office. Pediatrics is an overburdened specialty in Huntsville but I did find a pediatrician with an organized office, and the only time I've ever had to wait longer than 15 minutes is when I've used the emergency sick walk-in hour during flu season.

I wish I had a wireless laptop. Guess I will continue to settle for reading material.
