People need to realise that last year not one strong hurricane hit our coast even though it was an active year, so please don't say that the forecasters were wrong because they were actually right. We were just lucky.

I know, especially for us Floridians. But we've gone quite a while without a hurricane though, the luck doesn't last forever. We'll get one sooner or later.
Predicting hurricanes is like a blind man predicting rain. It will rain somewhere so even a blind man will be right once in a while. After over six decades I just know to be ready and go on about my business as normal. I've been through three really bad ones in the house I live in now. I've watched the mighty oaks twist and snap like tooth picks. The tornadoes spawned bother me more than the hurricanes themselves.
First thing first accuweather may be the absolute worst source for weather information ever created. When I was in DC they were predicting big blizzard after another and we never got one. They love to talk about the big events that never show up. They value WAY too much on computer models and not enough on experience and patterens.
Also as others have said these forecast need to be taken with a grain of salt. These guys would likely not be able to predict the correct weather in a region in 5 days how in the world do they know this. Weather forecasting is all guess work until about 2-3 days out.
The best thing we can do is to just be prepared. If you haven't already, take June to get everything you will need for a storm. Then if and when a storm does threaten your area, you will not be running around trying to get everything along with getting your home ready.

I do hope this is a calm season for the country as spring has not been friendly to us at all. I will, say, however, that much of the Southeast is in drought. Not wishing any major hurricanes...but maybe some low pressure systems, tropical depressions, or tropical storms will wash inland and help out the really dry areas. We don't need any Katrinas!

I certainly wouldn't want a flood like this again in my town(see picture below) This was Hurricane Wilma in the Florida Keys in 2005. I got 6 inches in my house, but my neighbors got 2-4 feet of water in their homes. Something like 60 or 70% of all the residents lost their cars. Areas like Marathon had up to 9 feet of water!
