3) Wrangler Drive-Inn‎
4) Iron Mountain Inn‎
5) Soldier Creek Brewing Co‎

Hi Grumbler,

I have only been to the Wrangler Drive-In on Route 20 at Fairfield. They won me over with their sign outside stating that they're "The Home of the Original Roadkill Pattymelt".

Yeah, I had the pattymelt and, it wasn't that bad! I'd recommend it.

I enjoyed Jim Dandy's when I went there (2003) but I don't think it's in business anymore. I've heard good things about the Wrangler and the Iron Mountain Inn which are both right off the main highway.

We'll be out there tomorrow in the late afternoon, and will do a walking tour of the downtown district before deciding where to eat. Will bring a camera and post the pics to a blog.

Hey Grumbler,

Here's a shot of the Wrangler-In sign:

Have a great visit to Fairfield. You'll be a little early for the 2009 Camas Lily Days, the annual Festival of Spring. It'll be May 30 and 31 this year at Fairfield City Park.

The Camas Lily, (Camassia Quamash), grows wild all over the Fairfield area. The Native Americans used the wild lily both as a food staple and for medicinal purposes. The roots were collected by the women - dried and ground up - to be made into bread. The explorer Meriwether Lewis wrote a lengthy paper on the plant and its uses.

Enjoy quaint Fairfield!

Had to scrub the Fairfield trip due to circumstances beyond my control. Will try to reschedule it.

Tee:
Jim Dandy's pizza is still open and serves great pizza. The Prairie kitchen is now under new management and is called Casey's Grill. It serves great food home style and us open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. this is a must try. The Iron mountain is still open and serves good food. Breezys is under new ownership and is now called The Cliff. Good bar food and they serve fresh fish from alaska on Wednesday. The sandwich Inn is also a great place to eat lunch especially if your on a tight budget. Soldier Creek Brewing Co is always a good call for great food and the Wrangler has the best burgers around. So with that said, load up and spend some time in Fairfield where the people are friendly and always happy to see a new face.
