I've noticed that the noisiest opponents of illegal immigration also want to cut back on legal immigration. Color me surprised. There clearly is an anti-immigrant thread that runs through this, it's not like you see people protesting shoplifters getting probation. I'd argue there's even a racial angle, given that the majority of immigrants are not white.

As for Iran, yea they have bad immigration policy, along with bad policies across the board. The last thing we should do is mimic their xenophobia.

The last thing this nation needs is tens of millions more uneducated and low skilled people.

There is no right to enter the U.S., it is a privilege, and the requirements should be ridiculously strict. It has nothing to do with race, I want immigration from ALL Nations stopped.

I believe legal immigration needs to be halted for at least a decade or more, the threat of overpopulation is real and there is no need to get there sooner rather than later.

They created their problems, not the citizens of this country or our laws. No one forced him to violate our laws, and no one forced her to marry him. The children are the only victims, which is usually the case when parents choose to live outside the law.

You seem to have a problem differentiating between legal and illegal immigration. Those opposed to illegal immigration are not anti-immigrant. If you do understand the difference and are simply trying to antagonize, please stop.

Thank you for a sensible post as always. So right, people think we are cold hearted Bull. When the parents choose to violate laws, things are going to happen. Not our fault, and people need to get friggin over this nonesense. Parents are the blame.

And yes to bad the parents don't consider the needs of their children first and foremost because yes, the children are the victims due to their parent's violating our laws.

It appears many on this forum have a very hard time, differentiating between legal and illegal, ironic.

The racial composition of illegal immigrants is not the issue. It is about our laws. However most illegals here are Mexicans and other Latinos and presents a cultural and lingual problem along with the lawbreaking itself. It is also sane policy to allow legal immigrants in in numbers we can accomodate in jobs and resources and no more. Our economy is tanking and there are no jobs. Does it make sense to allow millions of illegals to remain here and to continue to import more than the number of legal immigrants than we can provide for? I don't think so and that doesn't make one anti-"immigrant in either case. It is becoming very offensive to me to be constantly called that just because I want sane legal immigration policies and no to illegal immigration. If it continues I will take it up with the mods.

Interesting, the Trib was reporting "several thousand", many wearing anarchist masks (which the Tribune conveniently omitted). You pro-illegals ought to get your stories straight!

Do you have any idea why that is? Shoplifting is a crime and probation may be the punishment. Illegal immigration is a crime and should be punished, not rewarded.

Yes, when an American is caught breaking the law they pay the consquences for that particular crime. The consequences for breaking our immigration laws is deportation but as of late only felons are being deported. The rest are getting a pass. I am amazed at the claim of xenophobia on this issue when we allow in over 1 million legal immigrants from all over the world annually. Not to mention that we have citizens of every racial/ethnic group living here also. Xenophobia is a fear of strangers. Just what ethnic group/race is a stranger to our country?

I agree they should be punished, but I think deportation is too severe. We ain't gonna send illegal grandmas too drug lord territory along the US Mexico border. Not crossing that moral line.

American xenophobes fear foreigners, ie those they perceive owe allegiance to foreign countries. Of course many "illegals" don't go back to their country because they are afraid they wont be able to return to the US, so I wonder which they value more.

If it fits the crime then do own up to it.
