Anti-"Immigrant" Republican Brian Bilbray's "Bizarre Crusade" on the 14th Amendment (green card, born)

Still, it seems strange that Rep. Bilbray would sponsor such a bill, given that his own mother was a non-citizen. But Bilbray carved out an exception that would conveniently apply to him -- that a child born in the U.S. is considered a citizen so long as at least one parent is (1) a citizen; (2) a lawful permanent resident; or (3) in active military service. Bilbray's father was a U.S. citizen.
Even if Bilbray could manage to get his bill enacted into law, it would almost certainly be struck down as unconstitutional. The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution states: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the State wherein they reside." It would take a constitutional amendment, not a mere act of Congress, to deny citizenship to those born on U.S. soil.
Bilbray claims that his bill is simply advancing an interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment -- as Congress is permitted to do under its power to enact laws to enforce the Constitution -- rather than proposing a change that would require the very difficult and extended process of amending the Constitution. The crux of his tortured argument is that the Fourteenth Amendment clause "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" denies citizenship to American-born children whose parents "owe allegiance to another country." Not surprisingly, Bilbray is not specific about what that phrase means.

It's the spin factor being used to justify the deliberate abuse and misinterpretation of an amendment that long ago outlived its original intent and purpose. The fact that they breed with the pre-planned intention of running across the border in full blown labor confirms that.
Bilbray is an idiot. Before I knew who he was, I heard him on the radio once and was thinking "who is this moron?"...later I heard that he was running for congress and I laughed, thinking "there's no way anyone could vote for this idiot". I was wrong. Bilbray was a Bush lackey (93% in agreement by his votes) who couldn't even get into a real college.
I'm sorry, but if you haven't gotten even a Bachelor's degree, you are not qualified to be a Congressman. It's like saying "hey kids, you don't need to work hard in High School to become a congressman, you just gotta spend your time surfing and drinking and you too can luck your way into Congress". The guy is an idiot, and anyone who votes for him is one too. There were 13 other Republicans to choose from that year, including Howard Kaloogian (law degree from a good school, though he's also partially responsible for the Governator), Bill Morrow (who also had a law degree and was a JAG), and Scott Turner (an NFL player who had finished college too).
It's not hard to finish college, and as a Lobbyist and Tax Consultant, Bilbray could have easily afforded an education. Clearly his lack of Political Science and Government classes is obvious through his moronic votes and his inability to produce any kind of intelligent legislation. He is a joke.

I'm going by our governments track record of under estimating, by a long shot. 5x's was being gentle on them. Their last guesstiment they were more 50 x's off of their addition and a lot of Oh ya, forgot about that.

I have to side with zac here: looking at just Arizona 2009 vs. 2007 and extrapolating for the rest of the USA; even 12 million illegal aliens sounds way too high.............remember that Mexico is whining about being flooded with many of their citizens returning home--------and, not all Mx's ex-pats are even here illegally. Some Mexican nationals are green card holders unable to find work here hence heading SoB on their own volition.

There have been plenty of congressmen that have had no college education. The founders wrote what the qualifications were for those jobs. No degree required.
