The million or so that marched down the streets of L.A. flew Mexican flags, Socialist flags, flags with Che Guevara's face on them, and carried posters denouncing the rights of anyone but themselves to be here (Whites go back to Europe, Who's Illegal Pilgrim, that sort of nonsense).

You must live somewhere other than occupied territory.

It wasn't until the second protests that marchers were told to carry American flags. This was in response to Americans' anger over foreign flags being waved at the first protests.

I have a problem with people being told how to act by organizers. First of all, if American flags were carried only because of organizers' instructions, such an action is disingenuous. Secondly, I'm constantly reading that I shouldn't generalize. How can I not generalize when I see group behavior such as this?

I have no sympathy for Mexico's problems; it is her responsibility to 'grow up'.

Using another Hispanic country as a proxy; Spain, once it got its internal house in order------than she was rewarded with the goodies. Read that membership in the EU, use of the Euro as well as open borders courtesy of the Schengen Agreement.

Mexican flags are flown all the time here in the Bay Area, ever been ti a cinco de mayo festival? This would only be an act of treason if they were Americans

The ball is in Mexico's court.

There's a whole passel of Hispanics in my city: Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and Dominicans, Guatemalans to name a few.

There's also some undocumenteds -- I think they're Canadian!

Cinco de Mayo is not the same as a series of street protests.

Hell: I am sure there are little Cinco de Mayo celebrations at the Mayo Clinic here in Scottsdale

The Mayo brothers were a couple of Englishmen whose ancestors probably hailed from County Mayo, Ireland

Default Back to Topic: Brown vs Black

Okay, trying to get back to topic here:

Why do Mexicans have such a strong dislike toward blacks in Chicago? In Humboldt Park, my Mexican renters and neighbor abhor blacks, though I do have a Mexican neighbor (college educated who owns a condo) who lives with the mother of his child who is black, who seems fairly yuppified. She does not associate with the other blacks in the area.

My opinion is that Mexicans in Humboldt Park, many of which are working for minimum wage and may or may not have their papers are forced to live in poorer neighborhoods such as Humboldt Park. I live just north of grand avenue, which is the dividing line between blacks and hispanics. North of me there are few blacks and south of me there are few hispanics. Since the blacks the mexicans are around tend to be of a lower socio-economic background as a whole Mexicans in my opinion have a negative view of all blacks. These mexicans never have the opportunity to be around upwardly mobile or highly educated blacks and thus seem to hate blacks in general as they have had mostly negative experiences with the blacks who are their neighbors.

Other thoughts?

Probably due to the White Supremacy of Hispanic culture--------never mind that most Mexicans would count as American Indian here, genetically speaking.

I think that it is pretty common in many countires. They tend to base their respect for a culture by what they see of the culture and if they approve of it in relation to theuir own beliefs. I saw that in blacks when the Vietnamese first came.I think it's the same as blacks judging all police officers by the few. Happens in everything.Afterall ;we now see middle class blacks fleeeing the same neighborhoods that whites fled; as thier interest change.

Arizona Bear,

We might actually be in agreement on this one

White supremacy seems to be a part of a lot of cultures. Even my black renters (who didn't work out), preferred to be in white neighborhoods to black neighborhoods. I think they may have been confusing economics with color as there are several neighborhoods with large black populations such as Oak Park and Hyde Park and Evanston that are quite affluent.

Whites and Asians (and Middle Eastern) are associated with being better neighborhors when mostly it is an affluence thing. Poverty breeds all kinds of problems. Hence you tend to see more problems in less affluent areas, which happen to be black and hispanic.

There are lots of poor white people but they tend to be more rural and less concentrated, hence you read less about their problems. I went to grammar school with a family who didn't even having running water. Gangs aren't really a big part of rural culture, but crystal meth certainly has taken ahold. My mother does a prison ministry with women who are mostly in there for drugs, mostly crystal meth. Again, these are poor people for the most part. Culture of Poverty (black/hispanic gangs or white trash) is the true root of evil here, not the color of one's skin.
