A market friendly work visa scheme would solve the issue of annoying illegals, since they would all be fined and be given the opportunity to become annoying legals, for a small additional fee.
This type of public policy scheme could eventually lower our tax burden and lower public and private sector costs, as well.
If you think your plan would work so wonderfully, why don't you run for office.
Honestly, I'd rather see educated people, of whatever background. I think it's the "socio-economic" issue that is important.
If you bring in lots of poverty, like we're doing now, and people cannot fend for themselves, and we pay for schooling, healthcare, welfare, etc. etc., that is wrong and does not help our country, even if they are "cheap labor".
And, it seems like the Mexicans coming in from poverty, are continuing it here, and making parts of our country into "barrios". I don't think that is a good thing.
I think immigration should raise the "quality of life" for Americans, otherwise, it's not positive. We have to look at what it does for us - WE are the citizens who pay for everything with our taxes. We also fight the wars - this is OUR country, and it's up to us how we want to live and who is welcome to come here LEGALLY.
A market friendly work visa scheme would actually solve the problem you mention. It may also have the effect of ameliorating poverty in the US since we would be generating revenue that could lower our tax burden, other public costs, and private sector costs.
