Ok? Where did I mention anything about asylum? I am simply asking what is driving Mexican families to cross now.
It doesn't matter. We have asylum and immigration laws to protect our own citizens but these so-called migrants don't care about their negative impact on our citizens or our laws. It's all about them!
We should start doing more business with Latin American countries instead of China and putting our factories there or this will never end.
We have already done that and they still come here for the freebies and birthright citizenship for their kids which pays a lot more than a job in Mexico.
In the places in Mexico I return to year after year I have made friends with locals and many express their desire to come to the US. Many of them would make good citizens. But they have found the migration via legal means all but impossible for them.
We have many in Southern Minnesota here by legal means and many fit in well with our culture. Unfortunately with them come the family hangers-on, probably illegally. They commit crime and travel back and forth so it is difficult to apprehend them.
If we had a workable immigration system that rewarded families, the educated and workers we could increase the population that will do well here and do the US well. Instead we get the lawbreakers who aren't bothered by terms of legalities. I wonder how good of citizens they will be for us.
My take. It is true that the influx from Mexico subsided significantly in recent times.
BUT, even Mexicans can’t help but to see the writing on the wall. The border is now open and come all while the gettin’ is good. Party is hopin’ right now..

So if population growth stopped, we’re doomed?
Pro family policies and very modest legal immigration is all we need. Slow steady, healthy population growth is optimal for everyone in the country, not just the rich who want 25% annual capital growth that the vast majority of us will ever see any of.

We have limits on legal immigration for good reasons so of course we can't allow everyone to come here that wants to.
We have a workable immigration system already based on the above. Most from south of our border that want to come here are not the educated they are the poor and uneducated and we don't need them as they would be a burden on our society especially as a family unit that would drain our resources.
Aside from homeless Americans in NYC where they have been pushed out of shelters, I have not seen a lot of other poor people protesting. I have not seen the working poor and unions come out to protest, or have I missed something??? If I am correct, why do not we see a lot more working poor protesting for example?
