what? hispanic is not derogatory. where did you get that idea? maybe people you associate with use it as a pejorative term. but most people accept it as a goverment designation.

ive never heard anyone use it offensively. and ive never seen anyone take offense to being described as a hispanic.

And the odds are growing that the 'Hispanic' label will be retired since it is fast becoming derogatory--------much like the N word for Blacks. Besides: quite a few Latinos are actually 'White' (or Black).

I inadvertently offended a woman by referring to her as a 'Hispanic'. She is of 100% Portuguese lineage with a common Spanish/Portuguese surname: 'Bear; I am White, not Hispanic!'..........said woman was furious.

call a slavadorian, filipino and see what happens. better yet call a mexican a salvadorian.

call a hispanic, italian and see what happens.

that does not mean that filipino or italian are slurs or derogatory.

thats a fail.

That depends. Referring to a Mexican as 'Spanish' is not a grave insult; now, call a Spaniard 'Mexican'.........those can be fightin' words. Also calling a Latino 'Italian' may fly but not the other way around. Welcome to the world of Hispanic White supremacy.

no, its just a matter of cultural, ethnic, national or racial pride.

we all like to be referred to using the appropriate language. thats all it is.

dont read too much into it. hispanic is not derogatory. no more than saying african american.
and if someone gets mad/furious for being mistaken as african american, who do you think has issues?

So what if the Hispanic population in the US is rising. The Italian American population soared in the early 1900's, the German population in the late 1800's, the Irish population in the late 1800's. Nothing wrong with Latino population rising. Si se puede!!

What is wrong is that the Hispanic population is growing in this country directly due to illegal immigration. That is not natural nor acceptable and is against the law. Those other immigrant nationalities you mentioned came here legally and made it on their own and we didn't have 300 million people in our country at that time either. We still had lots of land and resources, not so today. No you cannot!!!

Yet to hear some Hispanics or Latinos talk you'd think they were well on their way to taking over. I guess they flunked math. However, if illegal immigration from that ethnic group is not stopped that goal could become a reality in the next 100 years.
