You and ghostandrewjackson should get a room LOL. You can sit and complain about people receiving healthcare who have different preferences in life than you do.

Basically, your complaints are unfounded since in reality, the whole ‘people on welfare are getting free sex changes’ is an overused talking point from as far back as Rush Limbaugh.

LOL - while I agree with a lot of the issues raised, I do not understand why one would obsess over it if no longer living here.

They suffer from BOWM (bored old white men) syndrome.

An elective procedure like gender reassignment is not healthcare. How about taxpayer funded liposuction, face lifts, and tummy tucks. Healthcare is appendix removal, or trauma care things that you know are necessary for the preservation of life.

I don't think the fed is just going to simply throw money at us.
And they also may force Illinois to contribute to social security. That will throw a HUGE wrench into to them contributing less into retirement benefits.

and hopefully force them to switch to a 401k system revoking their right to opt out for a pension system since Illinois has shown they are not responsible enough to handle other people's retirement savings.

Ask yourself first how many medicare recipients are actually receiving such care. Take off your politically motivated blinders for 3 seconds and think hard about the real costs bloating the system.

Yes, let’s take away teachers pensions when in a few years new teachers will be making just a little more than someone flipping burgers at McDonald’s... we already have a shortage, how bad will it be in 10 years if the pension benefits are messed with?!

Most teaching jobs can be cost effectively replaced with virtual classrooms that will likely deliver superior results for most students, freeing them from the age based learning paradigm and allowing children to advance their studies at their natural rate. Moreover, virtual instruction will eliminate the classroom disparity between rich and poor communities.

Despite almost every other industry being transformed by technology the classroom relegates itself to an 18th century model of teacher lead classroom instruction. It is ridiculous given the wide disparity in teaching ability. Moving to a virtual model removes one more variable from the equation and allows greater focus in dealing with those with learning disabilities.

Most teaching jobs can be easily replaced with technology. I would hope in 10 years the only classroom lead instruction left is in lab type environments. The idea that we still have history teachers in the classroom is asinine at his point.

While I agree that certain subjects have less need for real live teachers, it would be a real shame to deconstruct the notion of on-campus learning in high school. There is a lot of social benefit, athletics, etc. that would be lost if we simply had everyone sit in their bedrooms all day watching a screen to learn. Also, some students just aren't disciplined enough to keep up on their own. Not to mention the growing population of kids with IEPs, etc.

Being a teacher is super hard these days. Long gone are the days of working 8am-3:30pm and 3 months off in the summer doing nothing. Most teachers I know are putting in tons of extra hours, spend good chunks of the summer in their buildings, and parents NEVER blame their kids for anything. Teachers forced to not give 0%, etc. etc. I don't envy them at all.

The pension is out of control, though. My take, just remove the COLA. That's a big chunk of the increasing costs. Private people almost never get COLAs.
