Illinois has beautiful autumn colors. Where have you seen lovely color? I lived in Chicago for years so Lincoln Park was my favorite place to see the vibrant red, yellow and orange leaves. I want to check out The Morton Arboretum in Lisle - bet it is spectacular.

CatsDogsSun, good morning.

Anytime I want to be outside and in a natural setting, while in the city, my favorite place to go is North Park Village Nature Center. You can stand in the middle of it and forget you are in the actual city! (especially in summer when the trees have all bloomed!).

With all the trees and the rustic Park building (has a fireplace inside and all kinds of educational exhibits) it is ideal for looking at the trees and change of leaves in autumn.

The North Shore is generally fairly pretty and close by (I live here, haha). I think the Galena areas and Starved Rock areas are hot spots for watchers. However, having recently traveled to the Traverse City and Petoskey areas in northern Michigan, I can say nothing in Illinois can match that.

I would imagine Garden of the Gods in Southern Illinois has to be a great spot for fall colors given the views from the peaks:

Agree, we just returned from T.C. and the colors are brilliant. We concentrated around Northport, Leland, Empire and the Sleeping Bear Dunes area.

Are they peak around TC? I read the leaves report yesterday and it seemed like only the UP in michigan was at peak and that the coast of Michigan was about a week behind (i.e. would reach peak next weekend).

The Great River Road, from Alton to Pere Marquette. Topography like that is rare in this state.

In the south suburban area check out the Palos Forest Preserves and the Little Red Schoolhouse nature center. 95th street west of LaGrange Hwy 45. Willow Springs, 107th Avenue.
