Hi all,

Being that this is my first "real" fall in over 30 years, I'd like some opinions as to where the best places are to see good displays of fall foliage. I've certainly seen red and gold leaves here and there, but is there a park or other area in Portland where viewing is considered best? And when? Early October, early November...?

Thanks in advance!

Anne

Take the Hood River Fruit Loop Tour. Stop and buy apples, pears, corn, pumpkins, etc from the local farmers, take LOTS of pictures, and enjoy the day. I can not recommend this highly enough, I do it at least once a year, many times twice a year and have been doing so way before it was organized.

I'll frequently buy a box of apples just to make apple pies.

I'm sure there are areas around the city, maybe the Pittock Mansion or the Japanese Gardens. A few years ago I drove to Bend for a concert at the Les Schwab amphitheater. It was in the middle of September, and the views were fantastic. Sisters is a cute town if you haven't been there yet. (BTW - second the Hood River fruit loop).

Around the city, drive thru Hoyt Arboretum and along Terwilliger Boulevard.

We really need a couple days of chill to tell the Maples & Oaks to prepare for winter.

The Japanese Garden is stunning in the fall. Probably over the next couple of weeks it should be great.

Best places to view fall foliage are Northern MN, Michigan's UP, and New England, but that's probably not the answer the OP was looking for!

Laurelhurst park and surrounding area has lots of beautiful fall foliage - great in spring for flowers too.

Oh yes, of course, Laurelhurst Park! I will definitely make a point of going there, too! Thanks!
