I'm confused. Am I missing a joke or something? I got my plates, license and tabs before walking out at the BMV. Is it different anywhere else in the state? Getting my license in hand actually surprised me because in the state of Michigan the real license is mailed.

Although I do not agree with how quirky the BMV is they are much more efficient vs the Michigan Sec. of State. I have spent hours in the Sec. of State. In fact, IF by some slight chance you got in and out of a Sec. of state in record time...let's say 30 minutes, one would not be able to contain the awe and excitement and would need to call friends. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME TODAY?!

good to know. thanks! I am not opposed to having them mailed because when I got mine, the employee made a mistake and handed over my SS card, birth cert. and new license to someone else. The guy made it all the way to his car and realized he had my stuff too (Im a woman so I think it is pretty obvious the stuff wasn't meant for him). Thank goodness he was honest and came in to give it to me. Aside from that I found everything else to be pretty efficient but I admit that was a major screw up. Glad they are doing it differently now.

What if my permanent driver’s license, permit, or identification card does not arrive in the mail?
If you do not receive your permanent driver’s license, permit or identification card within 10 business days, call the BMV at 1-888-myBMV-411. The customer service staff will research your application and confirm your mailing address. You may also track the progress of your application through your myBMV online account.

What if I do not receive my permanent driver’s license, permit, or identification card within 10 business days?
If you have called the BMV at 1-888-myBMV-411 and we have not been able to resolve your issue, please return to a license branch and you will be issued a new interim driver's license, permit, or identification card if necessary.

As someone has already pointed out, the "In God We Trust" plates do not charge an additional fee because no organization receives any money. Therefore, there is no state sponsorship of a religious organization. The fact that the State of Indiana prints the plates is more a response to demand than to offer any special treatment. Every specialty plate surcharge is not kept by the state but remitted to a particular organization. This means that the state of Indiana prints ALL specialty plates for the same price to you...plus your stated donation to the given organization if you so choose.

The fact is, a lot of people are choosing the IGWT plates. The only ones complaining are those who are NOT choosing them. Not necessarily so for some of the of the specialty plates. Now if you want to talk about actual cost to the state (read: taxpayer) when it comes to tooling and other production costs, then you will likely find that those plates with the lowest volume actually cost us more to make. Which means, opting for the IGWT or the bland blue are SAVING you money. Thank God...and (or at least) thank your fellow Hoosier!

Good post. It'd be nice to see some sources but I believe you anyway because it makes logical sense, and brings up a point neither I nor presumably many other people have thought about.

"State worker" is likely why they are doing the mailing of the licenses. There was at least one BMV employee in the recent past who got in trouble for helping people get fake IDs. No different than "private worker" who gives their friend with a stolen VISA a list of what they also want, then tells the friend to go to their line to check out..so there won't be any checking of the ID to compare to the name on the card. Just because someone works for government doesn't mean they are honest and have good morals. I trust a "state worker" as much as a trust anyone else.

My biggest issue with the mailing of the license is that it could get lost in the mail, or people will start looking through mail for IDs to steal. Wonderful.

or the outsourced worker could take a big handful of ID's and "disappear".
