For those who have been IN residents, moved out of state & then came back, did you have to take the written test at the DMV to get your IN driver's license back?

I've read on the DMV site that all 'new' residents to IN must pass a written test before getting a license. Fair enough, but having been an IN resident all my life up until last year & holding a valid IN driver's license for 18 years, it seems really silly to be forced to take the same test I took at 16 years old to first get my license. But of course, it's the DMV were talking about so I doesn't really have to make sense now does it?! I would never really consider myself as a 'new' resident.

Any insight would be appreciated-thanks!

I flipped out! I remember when I was 15 or 16 ... it was a joke! 20 questions, boom, done. Then when we moved back, it was like 50 questions and x number of signs ... you can miss .. 2 questions and 1 sign. Here I was, in my mid 30's and I felt like a teenager taking the test for the first time. Pathetic, but I passed.

You'll need more than valium. Going to the BMV in Indiana has gotten a little better, but it's still a pain in the bum. Fortunately now, though, you can go to ANY branch to do your business, which is nice. We were getting the runaround in Columbus, so we called the Fishers branch and they took care of our issue over the phone. Not sure where you are moving to, but the BMV in Fishers was always pleasant to me.

The one off of Kentucky Ave on the SW side of Indy is nice too. Last time I went, no line. This was on a Saturday morning. I usually drive out to that one, regardless what side of town I live on at the time.

I noticed that you can make an appt. now too You can do that here in Florida which was nice....

I've always dealt with the branch in Plainfield (it was never TOO bad) but when we come home, we're moving to Zionsville. I would definitely drive where ever to find a better branch. A crappy visit to the DMV just ruins your day-

I remember when we very first moved to the Indy area, 12 years ago. We lived in an apt. off Crawfordsville Rd. I bought a new car & went to the Speedway branch to register it. God, I'm still having flashbacks from the 4 hours of waiting hell! And not the most pleasant people.
