Indeed. It's a sad situation and Bart is looking worse and worse everyday.

The huge tax increase was the last thing a slowing housing market needed. I know that I would definitely be afraid to purchase any property in Marion County.

You are exactly right and eventhough our taxes went up around 25-30%, I'm still glad we didn't buy in Marion County.

the bottom line is this. Prospective home buyers need some positive info about the marketplace or they simply aren't going to buy there.

You're exactly right! And sadly, this fact will cost Marion County which is unfortunate because it's gotten pretty vibrant in the last few years.

'Family friendly' normally means moderate taxes and not air hammer taxes which knock foundations down and scare folks away.

It can't be that bad.. Look at the taxes in NYC.. people are still moving there.
Indianapolis is a great city with many amenities. A tax increase will help improve the city even more..
Never complain, because the situation could always be worse

well, you may not mind huge tax increases but I do, especially when I don't see significant benefits to public schools and the quality of the education flowing from them.

if I wanted high property taxes, I would have moved to NYC, Conn. or NJ a long time ago.

Well if in the next 1-5 years the city had one of the best public school systems (for example) in the Midwest or country, would you still mind paying high taxes?

If nothings being done to improve the city, yet you're paying skyrocketed taxes, you should question the person in office. Where is the money going, How is it helping the city, etc.

People tired of high taxes should form a group and protest

I fully agree. We need to become more vocal and visible to protest the way government takes much from the people but gives so little back in return.
