Yes. If the title company didn't do it for you, then you will have to take it up to the guvment office. Homestead is usually part of the closing packet and if they don't do it for you, it should be in the instructions and would give it to you and tell you to take it up yourself. Well OK any decent title company

Yes file! The homestead makes a huge difference. For potential buyers, it actually can make one qualify for a home or not qualify. My husband and I looked at a house that was rental. The taxes were sky high due to no homestead. We liked the house but couldnt qualify for it because the payment would be too high, even though it would go down a year later after we got the homestead. The realtor said the house would sit for a long time because that would be the situation for a lot of buyers. Sure enough that house sat for almost 2 yrs!
