I have the same router. I have a cox connection. Cable and Broadband are not the same thing. One uses the round coaxle and the other uses a phone plug type of connection.
Incorrect. Cable and broadband are generally considered the same thing, the phone line connection is either dialup or DSL.
Thanks for all the tips! Hopefully Comcast will activate my internet connection by Thursday like they said, and once its on, I can work on getting my wifi working. I will definitely be referring back to this thread when I do it!
My 4G card from Comcast was supposed to stop working at the end of August, as they said they are discontinuing the service. Yet, here I am on Sept 3rd, and its been working all weekend. Go figure.
My router came with a disc. First you plug the internet cable into your computer. Not the router.
Then load disc...lynksys disc.
Once it loads a screen will pop up that displays instructions.
Then you take the cord put it into the router.
Then take the second cord from router to your computer.
Hit finish...write down IMe #
Then it ask you to make up password...if you will use laptop..youwill need this for wireless
Scroll down on this page and choose Version 3 from the drop down list then download the Quick Installation Guide from the list at the right. Everything you need to know is in there.
Before you begin, make sure that you have the setup information
for your specific type of Internet connection. The installation
technician from your ISP should have left this information
with you after installing your broadband connection. If
not, you can call your ISP to request the settings.
The guy did not give me anything, so I guess I need to call? what type of information are they going to give me? He did write down a temporary password, but that's it.
I had all the cables set up correctly, and everything powered on in the right order (as per the instructions in that link)
But, when I get to step 2 C on that page in the linked pdf, I don't get the same windows that they have- I don't get a window with an option to obtain an IP address automatically. That is the point I am stuck at.
I am very close to just paying someone to do this for me. Or maybe I should buy a new router that comes with a disk. This one does not have a disk.
