That second link is ... (unkind word deleted) wrong.
"But off (sic) lately, the ‘Suggested Friends’ feature has begun recommending random people as suggested friends. If you’re wondering why this is the case, it’s because the social networking service uses your smartphone’s location to suggest nearby Facebook users. This generally happens when two users, who are at the same place at the same time, use their smartphones to either check-in to the place, or just scroll through what their friends might have shared on the website. "
Facebook has never been on my smartphone, no phone aps of mine are linked to Facebook, and my computer doesn't use location. That blows their obviously unverified theory.
The buxom millennial pics used by scammers are pretty easy to pick out from people I might know.
The blanket condemnation of Facebook over a few issues is totally unfair. I have re-connected with a long lost college roommate, one of the most influential people in my life, through FB. I once got an ATM card I had left by mistake returned because the guy found me on Facebook. I keep up with cousins, former classmates and long lost friends this way too.
If it's not for you that's fine, but stop being so judgmental as others find it very useful.
I agree with you.
Since retiring I have moved first to overseas, and then back to the States but in a totally different location. FB has been a boon to me keeping up with and rediscovering friends from the past.
This has happened to me a lot too.
I just ignore them.

Found a brother and sister (half) I didn't even know I had!
I've always found it creepy how Facebook is always suggesting friends I've never heard of. I assume they're friends of friends of friends of friends or something but it's still Moderator cut: . creepy.
Its not really creepy, thats how FB determines if you may know other people or not, its why 'mutual friends' pops up when you click on people, FB thinks you may know these people, many times they are right, at least in my experience, Ive seen plenty of people I know thru FB friend recommendations.

I agree with you. I keep up with friends from my work years (now retired and moved), and former students contact me...one even came across the country to visit me for a week. There are things that annoy me about Facebook, but the benefits outweigh the downers.
