What sites are safe and not safe?
Is Mozilla safer?
I am afraid to use the computer any longer to
surf the web.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Have you had experience with a virus or other malware? I doubt there is any surefire way of protecting your computer from catching a cold, so to speak, but Firefox is better. Linux is much better.
What kind of protection do you have, as in antivirus, firewall, anti-malware, and defrag?

You might try WinSockFix, but you may be another problem. You might first run a defragger, and some anti-malware, making sure to update first.
Or, it could be your ISP connection. There is no way I can nail it down with certainty.
I use IE.. but oddly the geeks don't.. IE is everywhere and until it's nowhere.. I'll stick with what the mass's use..
I suggest Greenlabs that if you have fear of virus's.. you either eliminate that fear by experimenting on your computer or another and seek out the worst virus's you can find and then repairing it yourself or you just don't have fear until you see something on the computer that is obviously wrong to you..
Pre-emptive worrying really accomplishes nothing.. let go of fear..

Masses? What masses? Besides, who gives a rump what the 'masses' do or don't... use intelligence to do what is better.
Lastly, it ain't unbridled fear or worrying... its being aware and knowledgeable - about what you are doing, how you are doing it, and what potential positives & negatives are pertaining to it all, that is what is critical. Me, I've been a big fan of Firefox for years, and only reason that ever use IE is work related items. And while I do use Firefox and am proponent of this option, doesn't mean that if something sweeter, faster, less memory hogging, secure, etc. comes along... I'm all over that too.
