You're right there, Dr Freud. There's a stereotype that's it's always warm in Florida, especially when you live in the midwest, but they had some nights in the 40's this winter when I visited.

Very true.

I'm a little discouraged to hear that people still listen to Disturbed, too. Then again, considering that the rock radio stations are still playing the same Metallica songs they've been playing for 20 years in very regular rotation, I shouldn't be too surprised.
And how about Slipknot? How big are they in Iowa? Isn't that probably the state's most famous musical export?

No, Iowa's most famous musical export would be the Everly Brothers from Shenandoah. Of COURSE you remember them don't you?

Not to take anything away from either Slipknot or the Everly Brothers, but I'd be more inclined to give Glenn Miller of Clarinda that title.

My question is what do you as the residents of the areas that you live in perceive the attitude climate is. Im contemplating a relocation to Iowa, however I am a very conservative republican and wonder if there is an area of the state that would be better suited than the other. I spent a couple weeks in the DSM are this past summer and was very impressed with the city and would like to move my son there for the better schools and considerably less gang problems compared to where we live now (Central Valley of California). Opinions? Comments?
Long Story Short on Liberals VS Conservatives. Conservatism has proven by history and usage that it is the only viable form of government that will last and not end up in a Roman Empire scenario. Liberalism will ALWAYS fail rather it be from an uprising or the eventual collasp by running out of money. Liberalism will be checked in the US if it doesn't stop when our borrowing/debt ability stops. Money doesn't grow on trees.

If you look at "classic liberalism" and "classic conservatism" they are very close in reality. The problem is corruption. Most Republican politicians have very little in common with classic conservationism, just like most Democrats today have a very shaky grasp on classic liberalism.

This is how they got replaced by the Socialist and Neo-con parties, which are equally as destructive to a country. These parties have worked together on the exact same agenda for the last 30+ years... notice how nothing changes drastically from president to president, they want the same thing: More for them and less for us.

I am voting Ron Paul this election cycle because of his high regard for the constitution, small government, and sound economic policy. In the land of the free with Liberty and Justice for all, Libertarians make the most sense. If you disagree with their policies, you disagree with the values of our country, because they draw them specifically from the founders and our constitution.

Where as if you agree with socialists or neo-cons, you disagree with our country's values... they are wholly un-American.

Lowering taxes and raising spending isn't sustainable. It's foolish to think otherwise.

A system of checks and balances is what works. But both the Conservatives and Liberals have both become parties of soundbites, finger pointing and quick fixes.

Sorry, but the libertarian ethos essentially boils down to "let them eat cake", which is not one of the values of any America I've ever lived in or would ever want to.

Not a Ron Paul supporter (at least not at the moment) , but have a hard time not coming to the conclusion that his stance on the issues are the closest to what our Founders intended when they formed this great experiment call the United States of America. He arguments are based on what is found in the Constitution and associated Federalist papers. Everyone else (both parties) seem to base their stances on "what is fair" or on what special interest group can do the best job lining their pockets.

If his foreign policy wasn't so out there, I think he'd be very electable (and still maybe....given the mood of the country).

Paul would move us back to our roots. Almost any other candidate will continue to push us further away.
