I'm not at all familiar with CR neighborhoods so I'm hoping some guidance can be provided by those who live in the area. I'm looking to buy a really cheap house - less than $55k for retirement. There are several listings in zillow below that price range. I don't have high expectations for that price range. I just want to avoid the worst areas. Areas where there may be problems with gangs, drugs, flooding or some other noticeable issues that most anyone would rather avoid. It's just myself so looking at small houses.
I've noticed from the different cities I've lived in the past that there are usually small pockets of decent working class neighborhoods that have small low priced homes and that's what I'm hoping to find in CR.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Good luck with that! I lived there for nearly 20 years and can tell you that unless you are lucky enough to find a bad fixer upper in a good neighborhood, $55k is going to put you smack dab in the middle of blight, crime, and despair. Most "cheap" small homes in CR that you would want will be in the $70-80K range.

You might want to consider moving out a little ways.... an older home in Ely, Palo, Fairfax, Toddville, or Alburnett could be possibilities that would still be close to CR. Even in these areas, you will have repairs to look forward to.
