We went last year during the Christmas break (my neighbor is Puerto Rican so we had always wanted to go). The water is extremely beautiful. The hotels have it set up so you can do lots of touristy things very easily. When you go into town there are lots of shops and old forts to explore. The best thing about PR is it's so close, two hour flight I think. We really had a great time. There were lots of nice restaurants and a huge mall. The best thing was the Turkish Restaurant in San Juan, extremely good food! The bad thing about going at Christmas break is its the peak season so everything was expensive. I definitely want to go back again. It was so much fun.

I think the International has to do with runway lengths. It could handle International Flights. Most cities in the USA have International Airports even though there are not regularly scheduled International flights (ie Atlantic City International Airport)

Has more to do with customs capacity. Cecil Field has even longer runways than JIA, but is by no means an international airport. JIA also used to have nonstops to Toronto via Air Canada in the 90s. International charter flights also fly out of JIA.

That makes sense. Some places like Minot ND have an Int'l Airport, so its not just us here in Jax trying to look important. Or we could go like Oklahoma City and have the World Airport or like Houston and call it the Intercontinental Airport... nothing tops Phoenix... the Sky Harbor

Good surfing. Tropical Island. And to quote "Westside Story" "...Puerto Rico's in America." no need for a passport.

I read somewhere that Cecil Field could handle an emergency landign by the Space Shuttle. There is some group that has a vision of Cecil Field as a Private Spaceport... now that would put Jax on the map

Cecil Field IS a spaceport, but I think the technology is few years off. There are only 8 spaceports in the US. Virgin Intergalatic spaceline has like 3 ships they are testing. VSS Enterprise, VSS Voyager & VSS Edward. Thats the only spaceline I know about and they are basing their operation I think in Arizona.
