I agree. walking your neighborhood gets you out and meeting neighbors, seeing changes really noticing other homes etc. You know your neighbors better, you look out for them more keenly and you would more readily notice something ( or someone) out of place etc.

Sadly, a large number of newer subdivisions don't even have sidewalks, let alone connectivity of sidewalks. Meaning, if sidewalks meander and don't lead you in the most direct route, they are a waste and people will walk where ever they want. Ie:
The issue of directness is exacerbated in sprawling communities with large lot after large lot as it takes a longer time to walk past houses.....and of course, walking to commercial attraction is almost nill. Ie (these lots aren't especially large) :
Something as simple as well connected sidewalks enhance quality of life.
