Anyone live in Southern California for a long time who's relocated to Northern Florida and made the adjustment. I have been a SoCal resident for over 40 years and am considering a move to retire in Atlantic Beach. I have the usual concerns experessed by many on this forum. I understand the low hurrican risk. I'm watching the unusually cold winter this year. Ever time we visit, 3-4 times a year, we have been very impressed by the fact that we can live by the beach and be surrounded by so much water. The pace seems slower and the prices for everything are much cheaper than SoCal. Do you ever get use to the humidity in the summer?

I was born and raised in San Diego. I think it has Americas best climate and it is a lot different here in Jax. I dont know many that get used to the humidity but you can work around it. If you like to play golf or do anything outside, do it early in the morning or late afternoon but you will still be sweating your tail off.

It is much cheaper to live here though and I am hard on Jax for a lot of things but if you are coming here to retire I think its a wonderful city to do such a thing. Great boating, fishing, cost of living, golf and warm temps. Good luck with your decision.

I lived in OC for 17 years.

No, I about passed out last summer during the heat spell here. It was hard to breathe there's so much humidity. My panting was equal to the time I first snowboarded at 11,000 feet at Mammoth.

I lived many years in SoCal and I can say that although I adore CA., it is no longer an option for me. I left all my family there and the awful tax burdens and moved to GA just over the FL. line. I love the jacskonville area but you will need a screened in porch if you want to spend quality time outdoors during the biting gnat season!!! they are wicked. FL. has no state income tax and we are actually thinking of making the move the line, but to Yulee. Good luck!! It is a slower pace and I love that.
