So I'm a GM technician at a new car dealership. I get a call from another dealership saying they would like to talk to me. So I go talk to them on my lunch break. They offer me a sign on bonus and benifits I don't have at my present employer. They give me an application to fill out and want me to come back in 2 days. When I get back to work, my boss comes and starts asking me questions about what I have been doing and where I have been and I find out that the owners daughter snaps a picture of me talking to the manager of the dealership and sends it to my present boss. I almost lost my job. Is there anything I can do?
you don't have any recourse; but it sounds like your current dealership is pretty pissed (and nosey btw) so i would start looking elsewhere and hopefully you get an offer from the other dealership.
if you want to try and salvage the current job; i would simply state that they contacted you (you were not out looking) and thought it was worth a conversation.
I'm honestly still a little shocked that they would almost fire you just for talking to a potential employer. Are they that insane? People never leave?
