I'd like to know which country or business had been the principal supplier of these pork by-products that were previously allowed but are now no longer being allowed for import. I'd also like to know whether said country or business might have been doing something anti-Israel that could elicit a response from Israel in the form of an economic reprisal.

Excellent point. This issue calls for more research. Why out of the blue would Israel make this change otherwise?
P.S. I'll try to see what I can find out. I'm not doing anything other than sitting here eating my turkey bacon.
There's nothing more written about this new ruling, although the news is only about 12 hours old. More should be coming out about it.
FWIW, I think Israel is wrong in this (and I say that as someone who would never touch the stuff.....feh!). Most Jews in Israel are secular, and Christians there of course eat it. (OBservant Muslims, no.) People are antisemitic enough, and this will just add to it.

Yes, I think it bears looking into further. And I agree with you about the ruling being wrongful because many of Israel's citizens are secular.
However, if this ruling actually does have more to do with reprisal for somebody's anti-Israel activities, then I can get behind that easily enough.
