I pray for peace amongst you all, no matter where you are, and to those who have lost your loved ones and/or terrorized by the event that happened a month ago and/or currently in frontlines. May the peace of the Most High be with you all! Peace to Jerusalem!
I tried to make sense of this bronze snake incident for a long time and could not understand why God asked Moses to make a bronze snake when he said, "Do not make a carved image" as a commandment. I understand that this command is followed by the command, "Do not worship the carved image." But, why did God allow Moses to make one and said, if people see it, they will be healed from the venom? If someone could give some insight or views on this, it would be helpful. Thanks.
I am assuming the snake was one of the many gods for the Egyptians during the time of Moses and/or a god in the regions where the people were wandering in the desert. So why?
PS: I looked up the internet, and mostly, it's the Christian view, which I am aware of, but I would like to know the pre/non-Christian view, which is from the Jewish people.
Thanks, rosends! I understand that. But my question is why God asked Moses to make a carved image when God commanded not to make one in His 10 commandments - the 2nd one. God was angry, later, when Israelites went away serving other gods. So He is against carved image as it breaks the 1st of the 10 commandments. But I just couldn’t understand why?
I could conclude saying God has reasons, but He did tell Jeremiah to call and ask to show things that are unimaginable. So I am just searching! If anyone found the answer, let me know.
The ten commandments don't forbid Making any carved image, just an image of God or an object of worship.
To the object of worship point, many say, including some Jews, that the plagues in Egypt was a judgment against their gods. So, was snake their god? I don't know, so I am asking. If snake was, then the bronze snake was an object of worship. No?

Even if it was an o ject of worship in Egypt, that doesn't mean that any image of a serpent is automatically an object of worship to anyone else.
In that sense, then baal, asherah, etc, which was seen by Ezekiel's were okay? But God did send everyone away from the promised land. Whether they worshiped or not. My question is, God never asked any such thing ever before nor afterward. Just couldn't phantom why this one.
I see what you mean but it's a bit hard to grasp and say this is it.
