Grandview Triangle falling apart?

Just saw on the local DC news that they shut down part of the interchange because it’s sinking. Looks like 470 and 71 to westbound 435. That’s crazy for that massive morning commute to Johnson County. Should be fun!

I think it's disgraceful. What kind of engineers have worked on the infrastructure here? I see items on the news all the time about retaining walls collapsing, sinkholes, and now an entire portion of a highway collapsing. I don't even want to hear about excessive rainfall causing these problems. Roads -- and homes too, for that matter, are supposed to be built to withstand torrential rains, and you can never be too careful when planning for erosion control. This is a nightmare that thankfully, I won't have to deal with as a commuter, but I feel terrible for those who will be inconvenienced "indefinitely". I just thank God the whole thing didn't collapse with rush hour traffic on it.

The fact that people in the KC Metro accept things like this and don't raise a huge stink just boggles my mind.

The quality of road construction these days is abysmal. Blue River Road is closed due to the same thing. Bannister is down to one lane in front of the Bomb Factory. Kenneth Road is closed due to a bridge out.

You can't get there from here.

And how many zillions did they spend to "fix" the Triangle?

Geeeesh, I remember when they finally opened it...(what? just a few years ago) It sort of reminds me of those houses in the expensive burbs of Blue Valley that all slid down the hill...Remember those?

No matter how much rain KC has had lately, freeway bridges shouldn't sink. They should be designed and built for the worst case scenarios.

This will cost Clarkson Construction every penny of the bonuses they received for early completion and then some.

The right lane has been closed for at least a week, now...apparently, it was a known crack that's gotten bigger. I work at the Triangle, and drive that way from LS every morning. I exit before I get to that point, thankfully, but I think I'll choose an alternate route tomorrow, since god knows how backed up it will be.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I remember seeing a news item last summer about a retaining wall that gave way and collapsed into a roadway somewhere in the Metro. The reporter simply said heavy rain was to blame for the collapse, and I just screamed at the television! I've only had one college level landscape construction class, and we learned about retaining wall construction. The first thing we learned: if a retaining wall collapses, it's because it wasn't designed and built properly. Period.

Bad Construction. Wonder how long before other parts of "the triangle" begin to sink/fall?
