I don't know what it might have been named, but could it be possible it's the one currently named Mill Creek running through McCoy Park on the south side of 24 hiway at the Truman Library? Before the Truman Library, the area to the north was named Slover Park, after a prominent area family. Slover Park had several footbridges made of stone. With the construction and landscaping of the Library, the creek may have been diverted to a ditch running parallel to Union street, from Jones road on the north, to the bridge over 24 highway where it disappears at McCoy Park. Possibly the reason for the naming of Spring St., at its lowest point where Spring connects with College.

The origin of Mill Creek is indeed a spring located just SE of College & Spring. Spring Street was so named not only for that spring, but also a second one located near Spring & Pacific.

Your assignment, while maintaining proper distancing, is to name that market.
I thought it was Milgram too, but the other store I recall in that area was a Safeway.

The correct answer is...

Cascio's.

That name came to my mind, but I just don't remember it when it was there. I certainly should have known that it was an independent and not a chain who would be that innovative. My Bad!

And across the street from Cascio's was the Muggs Up Root Beer stand. (Technically not in Independence. )

I grew up in Independence in the 60s and 70s. We shopped at Cascio's sometimes. I had forgotten all about it till I saw this thread.

We mostly shopped at the Co-Op Food Fair on Truman Road, though. My parents were among its first shareholding members. Wonder if anybody else remembers that place?

Yup, it was in Pixley. That building is now a replacement window firm.

"Pixley" makes me think of "Petticoat Junction."
