Oops, my bad! I gave one very slightly inaccurate clue. One small item is still present at this site today.

Ok is this "small item" larger than a breadbox but smaller than a billboard or flagpole?

Edit: On closer examination, make that parking lot lighting poles

Further edit: One of the former driveways off 291? But still no idea what the building is . . . looks like one sign says "Office" but that's as clear as it gets......so I'm Uncle-ling this one. Over and out.

Just had a rare lucid moment and realized my "ex" lived at Summerset when first moving to KC. Those were fairly new, somewhat expensive apts then, had completely forgotten the name/location until I saw the Larkspur Ln on the map. Rememered that was the street name and it was off 291 and don't see where any of Larkspur cuts thru or is extended east or west. So thus I must have driven by this mystery spot many times but the years are too many to remember. At least now I can say eastern Independence isn't as foreign to me as once thought.

Yup, the light pole at the left edge of the photo is the only survivor. It is in the old Drug Emporium parking lot. A Google street view shows it. The house was an office, possibly insurance. Perhaps our Polk's expert could check on that. It would be about 2400 South M-291, and the first address south of Drug Emporium.

Perhaps my next mystery photo will be easier. I do need to scan more old slides for this topic.

Yeah that was a toughie, especially by 12/82 I was living near the "other" Drug Emporium, on 87th in Overland Park! That must have been a fairly new D/E since I was unaware it was there, I always tried to shop at the OP location, even when I lived in Blue Springs and was in Joco.

My Polk's only runs to 1960 and 291 is not a part of Independence in that edition. I think it runs close to the west side of 291 but annexation had not hit at that time.
