It's your prize give aways that keeps me researching and digging around to learn more about this towns great and significant past. I fondly recall the free pass I won to go thru the craft tents at Santa-Caligon last fall. I don't know how you do it.

Formerly of Ohio, what potential businessman chose Independence as a place to do business over Kansas City purely for economic reasons?

He made his choice because he believed the banks, lawyers, and businesses were in Independence and the wealth centered here.

He became a wealthy community leader, was involved with two banks, and shared his income with others but all his life he refused to run for political office.

Living here since birth, I have made a lot of connections with almost important people!

After the turn of the century, this place was the first ever proprietorship in Independence to sell these things when the market was rather slow but steadily improved.

The business was first situated at Main and White Oak where today there is a parking lot but eventually moved to the two hundred block of west Maple, where today there is a parking lot.

What was the name of the proprietorship and what was it selling?

I remember the name vividly because granddaughter Julie was a semi-finalist in a McCoy School 3rd grade classroom multiplication contest in 1949 and after the final I have never gotten over the fact that she beat me by a hair.
I see where there are supposed to be town homes built on this parking lot on the northwest corner of Main and White Oak.

So it isn't Alan Lefko. I shall contemplate deeper.

I can say that the man I am thinking of was responsible for gathering 100 women together in one spot for a specific purpose.
