Whereas I'm feeling rather generous today, I have decided to share another snippet from my 1959 map, and you won't even have to guess as to location, business, nor any other thing!

WAKE UP DALLAS, this is for you!

Additionally, the item says the dealer sold new and used Nash automobiles. How a Packard dealer could sell Nash I am not sure, although stranger things have happened. Packard never had anything to do with Nash as Packard merged with Studebaker in 1955 and the last Packard came off the line in 1958.

The item says new cars were sold on the south side of Lexington and used cars on the north side.

The item further says Clippard-Rodekopf moved from Lexington Street to Winner Road in Englewood being there from 1960 through 1974.

The company then moved to South Noland Road before going out of business in 1980.

Uhhhh, ok.......is it Rodekopf Rambler that's for me?

Or perhaps the nursing home which looks like it might be located on a stretch of W. Maple, say in the 800-900 block?

The nursing home was waaay down south on Lee's Summit Road at about 75th. It was in the old Cedarcroft farm home. A few years ago the home was extensively renovated back into a single family residence. It listed for a cool $1,000,000.00.

Date of erection of the first church building was October 12, 1825, which was about fourteen months before Jackson County was established on December 15, 1826 and about 17 months before Independence was established in March 1827.

The church was actually established earlier in 1825 when the congregation first organized under a tree and held meetings out doors or in private homes until the church facility was constructed.

My GG GF was one of the founding/early members of Six Mile Baptist.

Upon learning this, I searched and found the church was still in existence and from its website, some of its history, services, photos, etc.

The morning after my reunion, I managed to get up in time and drove to Six Mile for men's Sunday School and regular service. I introduced myself and explained my ancestral connection. Suffice it to say I was warmly welcomed, even introduced to the congregation. Coincidentally, there was a KC Star Magazine article from the 1970s that was posted on the bulletin board, and it had a paragraph or two devoted to my GG GF who was a church elder.

Before I left, the Pastor presented me a xerox of the article. They invited me for food afterwards and a brief tour of the church and grounds. Surprisingly, I discovered the gravestones of my other set of GG GPs in the adjacent cemetery.

A great service, btw, to go along with a very memorable day. Some of that Good Old-Time Religion. I'll be sure to go back next time I'm in town.

Unfortunately, Just Taffy announced they'd be closing. If you've never been there, they have the best taffy.. It's so soft and addicting!

Also, there's been much talk about Polly's pop. The theater is now selling it, which to my knowledge is the first time it's been sold since maybe the 1960's?

Awesome! I wonder if the modern version is still the tasty, quenching, sugary sweet, cavity-creating diverse flavors of Olde?

That stuff was sooooo good. And I have the fillings to prove it.

The homes in the background of the used car lot would be along west Maple.

I am really not sure of the details or if it's in the fountain or if it's bottles. I will have to venture over that way soon.
