My favorite sports caster growing up in Independence was Merle Harmon who was the play by play for the Kansas City Blues and Athletics. He was fired by Charlie Finley in the early 60s and was picked up by the Chiefs. Not sure what happened to him.

This is terrible, I know, but would any one like to guess what major street this is?

Another terrible one, I know, but would any one like to guess what major name street terminus this is?

According to Google this street ends in the background where the pavement curves to the left and becomes a numbered street. The camera is looking east.

After thought:
I will withdraw this one. It was a trick question, anyway. This photo is of an intersection in Higginsville, Mo., in Lafayette County. Higginsville is 38 crow miles east from Independence Square.

Google has East Truman labeled all the way to this point. However, closeups of the street signs in Higginsville say "19th." Prior to entering Higginsville the roadway is designated Lafayette FF, which is the same highway number that Jackson County uses to designate Truman Road. The street signs in Lafayette County say "FF."

Delorme Maps and Bing Maps use only the designation "FF" in Lafayette County.

As a point of interest, William Clarke Quantrill is buried in Higginsville.

This is definitely in Independence. It appears to be the eastern terminus of the eastern most segment of a well known Avenue.

Sooooooooooooooo . . .

This is either where the Kinnes lived and James was shot...or it is Lovers Lane where the wife's body was found

Although it doesn't look like the same area along 291 where 17009 E 26th Terr would be . . . hmmmmm

Oh, and to be more accurate, 1 of your answers is very accurate, another is partially so. And Sharon Kinne was not involved.

And one more clue- this is how the location looked in 1963, along with some neighboring properties.

This is the eastern terminating point of Independence Avenue. The intersection where the sign says Dead End is Elizabeth Street.

This is about the 3000 block of north Lentz Road, which is about one-half mile north of Blue Mills Road. It has an Independence address but is in Jackson County.

The Google camera car stopped here at 3000 north. But the road continues a little further north and then turns into a path that would appear to need a 4 wheeler to navigate but on that path at what is officially 3101 Lentz Road is the old Blue Mills saw mill and grist mill in operation from 1834 to 1865.

Atherton is 2.2 miles due north.

The only evidence left are limestone foundation ruins for both buildings of up to one and a half feet tall.

A 1994 application was made for these ruins on the Register of National Historic Places.

Courtesy of Bing Maps, the blue spot is Blue Mills. It used to be on the Little Blue River, which now flows to the west of the green meadow.

The property in question was indeed the site of a Civil War skirmish, part of the Battle of Independence. It was later the Swope Estate, where the infamous deaths occurred. It is now the RLDS campus and campground.

Merle was great

He was also a member of Rockwood CC. Saw him there a few times.

What makes up a street—or an exercise of madness and futility.

If one were to get on Independence Avenue at its starting point in Kansas City and wanted to travel to the eastern terminating point of that street by following all of the roadway, one would have to have a map, which may or may not be of much assistance, a lot of patience, and then some, in order to do so.

All figures courtesy of DeLorme Maps. Your driving experience may vary.

Independence Avenue starts at Missouri Street in Kansas City where the address is 1 east.
Dead ends: 398 east
Takes up: 700 east.
Dead ends: 7589 east
Takes up: 8000 east and turns into Tullis Street after less than a block. Tullis Street dead ends after less than a block.
Takes up: 8300 east
Dead ends: 8899 east (Tennessee Street) after entering Independence at around 8700 east.
Takes up: 9300 east (Brookside Avenue)
Dead ends: 10099 east (past Overton)
Takes up: 10100 east (Huttig Avenue intersection with US 24) even though there appears to be several hundred feet land separation from dead end at 10099 east
Ends: 591 east (Emery Street)
Takes up: 15600 east (Lee’s Summit Road)
Dead ends: 16600 east (past Lacy Road)
Takes up: 18400 east (Turner Street—the other Turner Street)
Final Destination: 18900 east

Delorme shows the final leg as being 18400 to 18900 east even though that segment is a little over a block long.

After entering Independence at around 8700 east, Independence Ave jogs north several feet and then intersects with South Kentucky Ave, which is a wayward extension of the east-west Kentucky we are familiar with.

Crow mileage from 1 East Independence to 18900 E Independence is a little over 12 miles.
