Thanks! We may be buying a house, too. We have to apply and see what happens. Washington and its nutty real estate market!
Well you are far enough east where it shouldn't be too much of a sticker shock coming from KC. Best of luck!

Cost of living is high, traffic is terrible, but pay is high if you are educated and the traffic is not so bad once you learn the area or if you live near transit.

There is just so much to do and people have things to do other than try to save a crappy airport terminal.

I will always miss KC. I like KC a lot and still follow development there much closer than even here. I was just there for a week again. But I'm not sure I would move back for any reason other than to be closer to family and friends from the area again.

I personally enjoy the more urban and faster pace of life on the east coast.
Eh. I'm smart enough to know being a tourist in place and living in a place are two entirely different things. We are trying it out for a little while but fast paced lifestyle is not something I am craving at this point in my life. All i want is to try and live carfree because I hate driving and car ownership. There are plenty of non east coast cities I'd be happy in too I.e Mpls or Portland or austin - the latter which I lived carfree for a couple years but I dread the thought of the heat or living in TX now. KC presents a lot of challenges if you want to go carfree - no light rail to airport, not enough small street side grocery stores within walking distance where you can grab the dinner you are planning to cook for the night, very little in the way of shared trans to entertainment venues, employers wanting their offices in Leawood or Lenexa, etc...

I was not talking about touristy stuff. We actually only do that when people come to visit. I go to NYC several times a year and have yet to even go to the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building etc.

I agree with Minneapolis. I would leave DC for Minneapolis if I had a job there. Possibly Portland too. Not so much Austin though.

What I mean is that while cities like D.C. are fun to visit I'm not sure how fun it will be to live there. I went to college in Boston and while yeah it was cool, the grind was depressing. This is a trial balloon for a year and if I don't like it we can find something else...I have the luxury of transferring to different offices or working remotely.

You're right, Bluefox. Wenatchee's real estate market is high but it's not Seattle high. We're interested in a house in Waterville right now that I'm gonna ask the real estate agent of ours about tomorrow. I've left everyone alone this weekend but I've got a laundry list of calls to make tomorrow!

I gotcha. Like any big city, DC is not much of a "grind" if you live and work in the city. It's trying to commute that tends to be the biggest grind. But it's certainly more of a PITA than places like Minneapolis or Austin.

KC is the same way. If you live in the River Market and work in the city somewhere, you won't have to deal with a fraction of the nonsense that people that commute to, (even people that commute suburb to suburb). I noticed that traffic JoCo is getting pretty stupid last month while I was in KC. 435 and 470 were both pretty nuts.

Good luck where ever you go.

Contrary to what everyone is in this thread lying about, there ain't really anything going on in KC. It's not a real city so I'd suggest not even visiting us and definitely don't move here. Literally, we all just graze on the farms with cows all day long until bedtime at 9pm.

Oh please. There's plenty of cowtipping to be had.
