But its not fortunate for the people that live around these areas. Their home values are plummeting, and they are finding fewer and fewer retail options as businesses relocate or close altogheter. I'm not saying its Detroit, but north Johnson County does have issues that will need to be addressed in the near future.

95th & Antioch is now blight?

Wow - then things have sure changed since I lived there. Not disagreeing - because you're there now and I haven't been for 19 years. Just saying that's sad to hear.

I remember going to the old Hayward's Barbecue restaurant there..let's see..that would have been about 1980. Seems like yesterday, but I guess that's a long time ago now.

What I mean is that IMO, things are not nearly that bad. Yes, there are a few empty spots, but for the most part, I think the retail that is there is doing okay. Home values are not "plummeting", they are still quite good compared to other regional areas and even still doing okay relative to JoCo as a whole.

Having retail options if you live near 95th and Antioch is not a problem. and I do think as the economy picks up, those areas will fill back in. More quickly than other "blighted" areas of the metro, that's for sure.

So what I meant was, if that's what we are calling "blight" ... then I think we are VERY fortunate!

A job has me moving to Lenexa, so the economy must not be that bad.. On the other hand, maybe it's a bait and switch, I'll show up and they're just going to mug me, is this the nature of the NEW JoCo economy, because things have become that bad? For shame... wait, what?

Bet you're all glad to be gaining me as a neighbor.. don't be alarmed by the half naked man you may find wandering the area speaking what may or may not sound like a language, I usually complete my Saturday morning rounds by noon.

It's one of the things I miss from the KC area. Is the "new" Hayward's still at the top of the hill on S. Metcalf? That opened in 1981, if memory serves me correctly.

I also enjoyed Bryant's downtown after I developed a taste for their sauce. Is it still there?

As OneKC pointed out, yes. Man, how I miss KC BBQ. Virginia is okay, but the place just does not have good BBQ, IMHO.

The old Sun Fresh has been torn out and a new Walgreens Drug Store in going in at that location. (The eternal battle of CVS and Walgreens continues, there is a CVS to the north across 95th.)

This summer the Stonegate Overland Park Swimming pool was rebuild, just to the southeast of that corner.
