I noticed they are running the 2004 movie The Alamo (Billy Bob Thornton, Dennis Quaid, etc.) and I was wondering how the other states that were once part of Republic of Texas regard their shared Texas history.

The Republic of Texas included big pieces of Colorado and New Mexico and smaller pieces of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Wyoming.

How does your state view the Republic of Texas and the fact that part of your state was once part of this independent nation?

Do they celebrate Texas Independence day or even acknowledge it? Do they recognize Houston, Crockett, Austin, Bowie, Travis, Seguin etc.?

Here's a link to a map of the extents of the Republic of Texas.

I wouldn't say we celebrate it at all. The war for Texas Independence is taught as a part of 8th grade US history course. As part of the era of Westward Expansion and Manifest Destiny. I think when people find out that part of Kansas was part of the Independent Republic of Texas they think it's a neat side note.

They don't give a crap and instead hate TX because of college sports.

First world problems and the passage of time.

Sorry, no one cares. There is a small town somewhere in central Kansas that flys the flags of all the countries that once owned that city on the courthouse lawn, but I don't remember if the flag of Texas is there. I think it is Lyons, Kansas.

Texas is a neat state, but the Republic of Texas doesn't get much thought here.

Texas is just another large state that is flatulent with itself. Nuff said. Go Seahawks!
