Naw... no wonder you are upset about Owensboro. Moonlite is a tourist spot, most regulars have found other better BBQ. Everyone in town knows that Moonlite is for Democrats while Old Hickory is the GOP hangout.

BBQ has a political affiliation now? That's pretty impressive.

Very interesting info. I don't think I would move back to western Kentucky, it's too rural for my tastes. But, if I had to, I'd move to Owensboro; for the sake of children, if I ever have them, probably McLean Co. b/c of the schools.

Well, I don't think it's either underrated or overrated. I do think Owensboro has a pretty good name throughout the state and I've never met anybody that has turned their nose up at it. Arts, festivals, entertainment, parks...there's a lot going on in O'boro for a town it's size.

BUT...I seriously contend that it's not living up to it's potential. Aside from the addition of two Wal-Marts, Sam's and Home Depot, its mindset seems happily situated in 1977. Owensboro has had a stagnant population since the 1970s.

I don't understand why most people from Western KY are always hating on Bowling Green - maybe jealousy over how much they're growing?

I don't notice WKY'ans bashing BG. I don't see a reason to.

Those of us who live or lived west of Bowling Green, including Owensboro never consider Bowling Green as being Western Kentucky. Not a slam, just a never thought of it situation.

So Bowling Green is South Central KY IYO? What is different about Henderson, Owensboro, Paducah, and Hopkinsville compared to BG??

Not much. They are all what they are. Henderson, O'boro & Paducah are river towns. The river influenced what each of those towns were, are and will be. Bowling Green was a college town until I-65 and Corvettes, and Hoptown is a problem town as only Louisville has more crime.

Actually, most of us in Western Kentucky never thought that much about BG, it was there. Many of us went to school there and before KY Kingdom there was Beech Bend Park.

Bowling Green does have it's share of big box stores, but for a city its size that's par for the course. Nothing ususual about that.
By and large the people are nice and friendly.

It has it's share of crime, but, to me, BG feels safe (safe enough, anyway).

There are two things about BG that bother me. Number one is lack of sidewalks....you go beyond the downtown area and good luck finding long stretches of sidewalks! BG does not appear to be a "pedestrian friendly" city (not yet, anyway). I understand that BG is working on that issue...maybe someday things will change. The other thing about BG that annoys me (sometimes) is the rather odd/peculiar layout of its streets. If you look at a map of BG, BG looks like a bowl of spaghetti! LOL! That won't change anytime soon....so if you live and/or work in BG you just have to accept it. The Scottsville Road/I-65 area is such a pain in the rear traffic-wise. So if I had one wish....I'd wish that someday BG and the state of KY can figure out what to do about the Scottsville Road/I-65 area!

On balance, though.....I like BG. It's a nice city. It's not "awesome" in any way, shape or form.....but it's nice.

I could think of many, many, many more cities of BG's size that are a whooole lot worse (in terms of crime, appearance, things to do, places to see etc. etc.)

They are adding not only sidewalks to the new road constuction all up and down Lover's Lane, Cambell Lane and Nashville Road, as well as all along Fairview, they are also adding a golf cart path that will eventually go around the city. I am not sure how much the sidewalks will be used considering how far these stretches of road are from the residential sections to the shopping/eating out sections, but they will be there. The golf cart idea is a good one but won't be useful until it leads to actual destinations people want to go to. They will also have to build some overpasses over these very busy roads for them to cross over on or there will be many safety issues. My sister lives in Peachtree City iin GA and this is a very used means of travelleling around the area.
