You're welcome! I have a goal to see the whole dang state. By the way while I am thinking about it, 14 years ago my brother was in a serious car wreck and had a brain injury. Once out of his coma, he was eventually sent to an inpatient rehab center in Eastern Kentucky (I think it was around Paintsville, Theresa I think?) and it was absolutely WONDERFUL!
That would be Thelma Ky, just outside of Paintsville.
This doesnt even count Lexington, NKY, and KY's other small but growing urban areas like Bowling Green. I don't have stats on hand, but rural people are certainly in the minority in KY, as most Kentuckians now live in a metropolitan area. Kentucky does, however, have a rural mindset, especially outside Louisville and NKY. I even find most of Lexington, outside campus, to have a very rural, agrarian mindset.
Well put, and so correct.
Louisville inside much of I-265, Northern Kentucky north of Union and Alexandria, and Lexington near UK's campus do not feel so "rural". You don't meet so many people with a more rural and even agrarian mindset and attitude. But much of Lexington consists of UK students and graduates that have moved there from rural areas around the state, so even many of the people you meet in older suburban subdivisions inside New Circle Road have an agrarian mindset, drive pickups, talk with a Kentucky country accent, etc. That's just the way it is.

So true. That, along with Mesa, Chandler, Anaheim, and Fort Lauderdale, are America's biggest suburbs.
I am from a rual part of Kentucky, I have live in Louisville and Chicago. I hate the city. I love the country. I do not need anyone to judge me or feel sorry for me. I am here because I choose to be here. I am happy and I do not get food stamps or other goverment help. I wish people would leave eastern ky alone. Go pick on someone else for a while.

...And that is what I am doing, to see part of the whole dang state & should arrive somewhere in Kentucky on the June 26th. My plan was to arrive via AMTRAK in Maysville, & make my way across, but I think I will have to restructure my itinererary due to time constraints.
I know it may take me a couple of trips out to visit the places I want to see.
These threads have been helpful, I just want to go & see where my Dad grew up, which is Mayfield opposite where choo-choo goes. I also hope to make it to Paducah, then Louisville. I've grown more dissatisfied with California, & if I could land a transfer to a VA Medical Center or Outpatient Clinic out there, I'd take it!
Well...Looks like my travel plans changed & I have to postpone my trip until the last week in August.
I'll be attending American Legion 91st National Convention in Louisville as a possibly as a delegate.
Scrambling to change my lodging arrangements, folks I spoke to at the place I'll be staying were very nice, polite & accomodating. We became on a first name basis, I was referrd to as "Honey" & "Darlin". They didn't have to honor my request, but they did, because "Please", "Yes Ma'am" & "Thank You " go along way. I'm going to really like this visit, & look forward to meeting my hosts.

I bought a used TV from a man in Mayfield who had a shop in his house. he called everybody "Honey". Hope you'll have plenty of time to see this great state.
I'll see as much as I can, I'll be there only a week, so I look forward to seeing Louisville, may try to break away & head west a couple days, possibly Owensboro, depending on what Legion events & committee meetings I want or need to attend. I know I ain't leaving until I have Burgoo, a Hot Brown, & visit the Highland Post in Louisville. There is no
doubt in my mind this is going to be a great trip. Thanks for the Rep
Kygman.
Rural Kentucky has one of the highest smoking rates in the country. If they want to be considered more intelligent, maybe they should stop.
Rural Kentucky has only itself to blame for its negative stereotypes. But try telling that to the close-minded people of the region.
