Hi again everyone,

As per my previous post, I am planning to move from Las Vegas to the Tri-Cities area in November/December of this year. Having grown up in Louisville, KY, I'm eager to make the change from the dusty, arid desert back to a greener area with humidity, four seasons, and beautiful tree-covered mountains, while still maintaining the no-state income tax benefits of Nevada. Your area certainly fits that bill.

Anyhow, I've been searching for rental homes in the Kingsport area (I would like to rent for a year or two before buying, to make sure the Tri-Cities is where I ultimately want to be) and haven't come up with much. I had my eye on a beautiful home in northern KPT for the past couple of weeks, but sadly it looks like it's been rented at this time. I have no interest in apartment/townhome living, and I am unable to find a single additional SFR available for rent in the area anywhere online.

Are rental houses really this uncommon in the Tri-Cities area, or am I just not looking in the right place?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Chris, I can only speak from my experience. When we moved to the area about 4 yrs. ago, rental homes were hard to find. We recently put our house up for rent (north JC). I listed it on a Friday afternoon on Craigslist. By Monday, we had it rented out. We also had a waiting list of people and we also had people emailing us from out of State. Two people from out of state were willing to send us a deposit and first months rent even though they did not see the house. I think this was because school starts in August and students and people with kids want to get settled in the Summer.

Since you are not moving until November, you may actually have a better chance of finding something.
