You may have a point, but I grew up with septic and well water in IN/ MI and AL. I just have a lot of not so great memories, one of those being up in the middle of a cold night up to my knees digging in smelly trenches for some 'emergency' (I was just a kid so I don't know what it was all about, but it stunk and left a nasty memory, lol) Also know my dad had a lot of repairs and problems with his well pump over the years, so it's just not something I felt like I wanted to deal with. Figured I'd have enough in the way of home maintenance and repairs without adding another source of potential problems, worth the tradeoff to me.

I still think you were unlucky. And of course you don't know what those emergencies cost. I do know that we are way ahead in the 12 years we've been here and it's kind of nice to water the garden as long as you want without reservations.

Many years ago we lived in a rental in a Chicago suburb and every time a storm came through, our basement flooded. Yes, it flooded complete with neighbors excrement/tampons/diapers, etc. We were on city water/sewage of course. The clean up cost was ours to bear. I know this still happens in many areas of Chicago - even upscale.
