Has anyone seen any ethanol free gas stations around? It seems like most places have the 10% ethanol gas, and I am seeing a decrease in my fuel economy due to the ethanol. I was hoping to find one around Gray, Johnson City, or Erwin. Thanks!

The ONLY one I have found and use is Sam's club on State of Franklin. But you have to be a Sam's club member to get gas there. Not only is it ethanol free, it is usually several cents lower. If you happen to find another as well, please let me know, I have 2 vehicles that run awful with the ethanol.

Better make sure you ask the attendant at Sam's if they add ethanol to the gas. Costco definitely does add the ethanol but their pumps are not labeled as such. It's going to be difficult to find gas without the ethanol additive as Summer regulations in most Southern states are calling for ethanol to help with emissions and pollution. I think we are just going to be stuck with poor fuel economy for at least a few more weeks.

Yep, have asked and not only that I can tell the difference as my cars run like crud on the ethanol, knocks like crazy and sluggish, not so on the Sam's gas.

Great. Good to know that Sam's is not adding ethanol.

I'll ditto Sam's.

The .03-.08 discount and increase mileage alone pay for my membership.

I think you can find ethanol free at Chevrons and Citgos.

I can't think of where a Chevron is......anyone?
As for Citgo, I wouldn't go there if they were selling it for $1 a gallon. Sorry but Chaves Or how ever the heck you spell his name isn't getting a dime of my money. I'll walk first.

I think the Citgo-Chaves connection is overblown. Sure he owns the state controlled Venezuelan oil giant, but once that oil is refined it is a whole different story. All the gas that comes to the tricities comes through a few pipelines and petroleum is a fungible good. Thus, when any local gas station (which are privately owned - even Citgos) buys petroleum, it could have been unearthed in any oil producing country but most likely the US, Canada, or Mexico. So by boycotting Citgo, Chaves is not hurt at all but the local owner-operators get screwed. This is why "don't buy gas on Tuesday" or "don't buy gas from Appco" will never work. Its fungible.

And there's a Citgo on the Bristol HWY; I don't know if it's operational.

I drive down Roscoe Fitz Road every day, twice a day. It is about a mile long, not one gas station of any kind on it.
I do think I know which one it is referring to in Piney Flats though, hubby goes by there every day, I'll tell him about that one might not having ethanol though. Thanks for the heads up.
As far as the Citgo, it is my understanding that all Citgo's are corporate owned (Chavez) or franchises with a large portion of profits going back to corporate and they are not independently owned like a lot of others such as BP, Appco etc. That is why I had the issue with them, not just because of the gas. Please correct me if I am wrong. I read an article, I believe on MSN or Yahoo News back when he said all those things against Bush. That is where I got that info.

Myth: Spurning gasoline from certain major oil companies will cut off the funding of terrorists
Sample copy: "Nothing is more frustrating to me than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. It turns out that some oil companies import a lot of middle eastern oil and others do not import any. I thought it might be interesting for Americans to know which oil companies are the best to buy their gas from."

Facts:

* The idea that oil companies sell gasoline only through their branded service stations is wrong. Oil companies sell their output through a variety of outlets other than their branded stations; as well, by the time crude oil gets from the ground into our gasoline tanks, there's no telling exactly where it came from.
* Complex problems rarely lend themselves to simple, painless answers. Simply shifting where we gasoline is purchased isn't nearly as good a solution as curtailing the amount of gasoline bought.

I don't buy from Citgo because it is $.05-.10 more expensive for some reason. I think most in the area have gone unbranded or out of business because of boycotts.
