I'm in the process of moving to knoxville myself and got outbid on a similar property on Quincy. Creeksitter described the E. Springdale area perfectly. If you are interested in public transit check out the KAT maps. Broadway is a nicer thoroughfare than Central which doesn't have many amenities. Being closer to the hospital would probably add value to your property as well. You will find that there are plenty of properties in that price range and that area that are probably nicer than this one. This is the best website I've found to search for homes for sale. Listings

I currently live in Greenville, NC, but I'd like to live in a city a little bigger. 100k to 180k population seems to be a good number.

I haven't heard too much about crime in Knoxville, which is a good thing. That being said, I will need to get a 1br apartment for about $500 or less. Are there any areas I should avoid? I don't mind a 15 minute drive to class as long as I'm not near noisy college students or violence.

Tell me a bit about Knoxville. Fun things you enjoy doing, etc. I'm pretty used to living close to the beach, so I'd have to get used to being far from the beach!

Thanks,
MW

Knox and Raleigh are about the same crime wise...Raleigh is a lil bit bigger than Knox tho since it is a captial and all of a pretty big state...But you will find that West Knox is alot like North Hills in Raleigh and that Farragut,TN is alot like Cary,Nc....Greenville Nc if im not mistaken has a pretty higher crime rate but maybe thats just cause of its smaller size? Idk...That being said tho Farragut has the lowest overall crime rate in Knox Co. i would say...Powell and Halls in North Knox would also be a good safe option...Stay away from the East and Northwest sides...Here lately south Knox has def had its fair share of crime too with home break in's and robberies

South Knoxville is pretty safe as long as you aren't involved in the drug business.

That crime map is hardly accurate...It says there hasn't been any crimes reported in the past week...Idk why but its missing alot of crime reports...Like this past week alone i know theres been atleast 2-3 shootings, one murder and atleast 5-6 robberies at drug stores,a Walmart and a few motels...I think that crime report def needs an updating before you take it seriously....Just saying

Not surprised. That's why I listed the Knoxville police site, which does provide that info on an area for a fee.
