My last day here at work in Florida is March 7th and then it's as fast I can after that but before March 24th which is when I committed to start my new job in Knoxville.

I cannot wait! I'm glad I saved some warm clothes from NJ so I'll have something to get started with but I am wondering what I'm going to do with all my sandals.. Hmmmm...guess I'll have to use them to make a far until I get some wood.

WOW...next Friday is your last day!!! LUCKY YOU!!!!

We'll be right behind you.............hubby's last day at work is March 28th and the movers are picking up everything on the 28th - then we will head out of here on the 29th. We figure we can make about 350 miles per day, so we'll arrive in Knoxville on the 31st!!!

We just signed a lease with Corporate Quarters for a furnished apt. in Knoxville, that we will stay in while we house hunt!! Hopefully we will only be there for about 90 days!!

It will seem strange to not stock a 'hurricane' closet this year!! After living on the Outer Banks of NC for eight years and in the Keys for a year, we are looking forward to not having to constantly keep aware of hurricanes!! We've gone through enough hurricanes during the past nine years that it will be a welcome relief!!

LCG and beachbette, you sound like my sister who just moved to Knoxville from Fl. 2 months ago, everytime I talk to her she's "freezing" but she still loves it there and said she'd take TN weather over Fl. weather anyday! It just takes some gettin used to.
Cheap giggles aside I suspect this is the entrance to a building site where either the owner's or contractor's name is Farwood. I've seen a lot of signs that look much like that one. Some counties require it, some builders just do it 'cause it keeps the concrete and gravel trucks from getting lost before there's any visible construction going on.

Just so everyone knows that I'm not the only "failure to thrive" sunlover here in the Knoxville tundra, my neighbor (from FL) just sped up in her convertible with the top down. I suspect she was celebrating today's heat wave, where the thermometer boldly shot into the 40s. I also noticed that she was sporting a trendy new shade of blue lipstick.

Are you sure? Today, I drove by a sign that announced "Gospil Music."

It was probably the lure of showing off her blue lips that put that top down! Hey, some people look good with blue lips and frozen toes!!

When I drove down our street about an hour ago - now, at 40 degrees - I saw two neighborhood boys playing stick hockey with no shoes or socks, in shorts, and with winter parkas on! What an bizarre picture that made!

We have both extremes down here. You have the natives that just love when it's 50 degrees out and wear their shorts and sandals anyway. And then you have the transplants (like me) that bundle up like we are in the Artic because we can't tolerate the cold which is why we moved down to Florida in the first place.

We also have a place down here that has a sign in the window that says "We sell playpins!" among other baby items.

I know! We are leaving all of our hurricane supplies in our house for our renters.

We took out a 6 month lease on a townhouse in Cedar Bluff. We'll decide what we want to do once we get settled in and more familiar with the area.

Wink Bring your woolies, girls! It takes some gettin' used to!

Yeah, it amazes me here in GA to go out on a raw day like yesterday and see people (must be relatives of GBH) in their flip-flops and shorts!

I look like a dork in my slacks with the Cuddles long underwear underneath, the camisole, then the turtleneck T-shirt, then the wool sweater over that. Wrap the wool scarf around the neck, slip the boots over the knee socks, yank on the leather jacket, and slip on those nicely lined leather gloves and I'm all set to go to the mailbox!!

The pathetic part is - that is REALLY how I dress when I go out in the winter here in GA, but I loved it last Feb. when I got snowed in while with my dad in PA and couldn't fly out for 5 days! Brisk, raw, snowy, wonderful! I even shoveled the sidewalks.

The difference is all in being dressed for it. The acclimation sometimes never happens.

We keep one pantry stocked with bottled water and about a 7 day supply of food just in case of an ice storm in the winter or heavy rains that knock out the power in the summer. Does that count as a pseudo-hurricane closet?)

That's more than a lot of people down here keep on hand.
